(Patriot.Buzz) – In a high-profile ceremony, Joe Biden awarded seven distinguished U.S. Army veterans the Medal of Honor for their remarkable valor in the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
This event marked Biden’s final Medal of Honor presentation during his term, recognizing acts beyond the call of duty.
In a ceremony at the White House’s East Room, Biden presented seven veterans with the nation’s highest military decoration.
“These are genuine to-their-core heroes — heroes of different ranks, different positions, and even different generations, but heroes who all went above and beyond the call of duty,” Biden stated.
Among them was Richard Cavazos, the first Hispanic to achieve the rank of four-star general, honored posthumously for his heroic actions during the Korean War.
His son Tommy Cavazos told reporters ahead of the ceremony, “He was a man of deep faith who loved his country, loved his family, loved his soldiers…”
“…and it was that love, that selfless love of which there’s no greater love that drove him up the hill that night in 1953 to collect the men of his company and get them to safety,” he continued.
At the same ceremony, the sole living recipient, Kenneth J. David, received his Medal for extraordinary bravery displayed during a 1970 engagement in Vietnam.
Corporal Fred B. McGee’s daughter, Victoria Secrest, fought tirelessly to see her father recognized for his valiant actions in Korea.
Private First Class (PFC) Charles Johnson received the Medal posthumously. He had previously been honored with a statue at his high school for saving lives during the Korean War.
Private Bruno R. Orig received the Medal of Honor among other distinguished recipients for administering first aid and returning fire during a tactical withdrawal in Korea.
Captain Hugh R. Nelson Jr. was awarded posthumously for sacrificing his life during a helicopter mission in Vietnam, a testament to the courage required of these heroes.
Moreover, PFC Wataru Nakamura’s courage was also recognized, having charged enemy forces in Korea and lost his life to a grenade.
In his closing remarks, Biden emphasized the Medal of Honor’s role as a symbol of extraordinary courage, embedding this honor within the narrative of American heroism.
As Biden concluded his final announcement of such recipients, his reflection on the ceremony as the “greatest honor” of his tenure prompts further contemplation on how American values are celebrated and upheld in these changing times.
