(Patriot.Buzz) – In a bombshell turn of events, New York Magazine suspended Olivia Nuzzi after discovering she had a personal relationship with former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Nuzzi confirmed the relationship but stated it was non-physical, which raises serious conflict of interest issues according to the magazine’s ethical guidelines.
Nuzzi admitted to the relationship, which began after she completed a profile piece on Kennedy in November 2023, but the magazine only recently learned of this through an internal investigation.
An insider revealed the relationship existed even though an ongoing third-party review found no inaccuracies or biases in Nuzzi’s reporting.
A spokesperson confirmed, “Recently, our Washington Correspondent Olivia Nuzzi acknowledged to the magazine’s editors that she had engaged in a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign while she was reporting on the campaign, a violation of the magazine’s standards around conflicts of interest and disclosures.”
This disclosure sparked outrage among those who expect journalistic honesty and unbiased reporting.
Nuzzi herself expressed regret: “During that time, I did not directly report on the subject nor use them as a source. The relationship was never physical but should have been disclosed to prevent the appearance of a conflict.”
New York Magazine emphasized its deep regret over this breach of trust with its readers.
Despite confirming the lack of any bias or inaccuracies in Nuzzi’s previous work, the publication has made it clear that she would have been removed from covering Kennedy’s campaign had they been aware of the relationship from the start.
Kennedy Now endorses GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump for the 2024 election and has been included in Trump’s transition team.
Kennedy’s team denies any romantic involvement with Nuzzi. “Mr. Kennedy met Olivia Nuzzi only once for an interview she requested, which resulted in a critical article.”
The double standards at play here are striking. Nuzzi was once a critic of Hollywood stereotypes of female journalists as seductive figures, and she now finds herself entangled in a situation she once condemned.
Notably, Nuzzi declared her engagement to Politico’s chief Washington correspondent Ryan Lizza in September 2023, further complicating her professional and personal life.
Meanwhile, Kennedy is still married to actor Cheryl Hines and continues to face his own controversies, including a federal investigation related to an incident two decades ago.
