(Patriot.Buzz) – Trying to score political points as Election Day approaches, Kamala Harris is once again flip-flopping on her political stances.
She is now calling for the death of the Senate filibuster in order to codify Roe v. Wade into law even after the Supreme Court overturned the ruling in 2022.
This new move is a striking about-face from 2017 when she supported preserving the longtime Senate tradition.
This shift aligns her more closely with the radical progressive faction and alienates pro-life Americans and traditional conservative Senate filibuster defenders.
Harris made her stance clear during a radio interview with Wisconsin Public Radio. “I think we should eliminate the filibuster for Roe,” she declared, pushing for the controversial move to pass the legislation with only 51 votes.
In 2017, she co-authored a letter urging Senate leaders to preserve the filibuster to protect the legislative debate framework.
Harris’ current position is part of a larger ultra-leftist agenda. She campaigned in 2020 on promises to dismantle the filibuster for climate policy, like the Green New Deal.
Her new stance seeks to draw a distinct line between herself and former President Trump on the abortion issue before the elections.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer signaled that he might consider eliminating the filibuster for abortion access votes if Democrats retain their majority.
However, some within the Democrat Party warn this move could backfire.
Democrat-turned-Independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema warned that dropping the filibuster could allow a future Congress to ban all abortions nationwide, labeling it a “terrible, shortsighted idea.”
Both Sens. Joe Manchin and Sinema have stood firmly against weakening the filibuster, emphasizing its role in maintaining democratic principles and bipartisan cooperation.
Their retirements in January may give Democrats the opportunity to alter Senate rules next year.
“Shame on her,” Manchin told CNN Tuesday in response to Harris’s comments. “She knows the filibuster is the Holy Grail of democracy.”
“It’s the only thing that keeps us talking and working together. If she gets rid of that, then this would be the House on steroids…I think that basically can destroy our country, and my country is more important to me than any one person or any one person’s ideology,” he added.
Joe Biden also supported changing filibuster rules to pass a federal law codifying Roe after the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision.
Despite the internal conflict within the party, Harris stands by her belief that weakening the filibuster is necessary to advance the liberal agenda in the face of a challenging Senate electoral map.
