VIDEO: Measles Outbreaks Now In 9 States

Measles outbreak sign

(Patriot.Buzz) – As measles outbreaks spread to nine states across America, serious questions arise about the nation’s preparedness and response to infectious diseases.

Watch the video below.

With 164 confirmed cases nationwide and the first measles death, since 2015 reported in Texas, the consequences of weakened herd immunity are becoming increasingly evident to worried parents and health officials alike.

Texas currently leads the nation with 146 confirmed measles cases, but the virus has now reached New Mexico, Alaska, California, Georgia, Kentucky, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island.

The largest outbreak centers in West Texas, where one unvaccinated child has died – marking the first U.S. measles fatality in nearly a decade.

Health data revealed a troubling pattern: approximately 95% of the current cases involve unvaccinated individuals or those with unknown vaccination status.

Even more concerning, about 20% of measles patients have required hospitalization, demonstrating the serious nature of this disease that many Americans thought was eliminated decades ago.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that national vaccination rates among kindergarteners have fallen from 95.2% in 2019-2020 to just 92.7% in 2023-2024.

This drop below the crucial 95% threshold needed for herd immunity has created vulnerable pockets across the country where measles can spread rapidly once introduced.

Moreover, most of the 2025 cases are occurring in school-age children (48%), followed by children under 5 years old (34%).

The virus spreads with remarkable efficiency. It is so contagious that it can remain in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves a room.

If exposed, unvaccinated individuals have a staggering 90% chance of contracting measles.

Thanks to widespread vaccination, measles was declared eliminated in the United States in 2000, but international travel continues to reintroduce the virus.

Children typically receive their first MMR vaccine between 12 and 15 months of age, but during outbreaks, health officials recommend vaccination as early as 6 months in affected areas.

Symptoms include high fever, rash, cough, and red eyes, with the virus often spreading before obvious symptoms appear.

Even though many cases resolve without complications, measles can lead to serious health problems, especially in young children, pregnant women, and those with compromised immune systems.

Meanwhile, the MMR vaccine remains highly effective, preventing measles in 97% of people who receive both recommended doses.

Parents concerned about exposure should consult with their family physicians about vaccination status, especially if they live in or travel to affected areas.

Nine confirmed cases represent a significant regional outbreak in New Mexico’s Lea County.

Public health officials there are working to contain the spread while emphasizing the importance of vaccination as the primary defense against this highly contagious disease.

These outbreaks serve as a stark reminder of what happens when vaccination rates fall below protective levels.

Before the measles vaccine was developed in the 1960s, nearly everyone contracted this highly infectious disease, resulting in thousands of hospitalizations and hundreds of deaths annually in the United States alone.
