Alabama Bomber Thrown In Prison

A large explosion with flames and smoke.

(Patriot.Buzz) – In a shocking act of domestic terrorism, an Alabama man has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison for detonating a bomb outside the state’s attorney general’s office.

This brazen attack on a government institution underscores the growing threat of anti-government extremism and the need for stronger measures to protect public servants and institutions.

Irondale, Alabama, 27-year-old Kyle Benjamin Douglas Calvert pleaded guilty to the malicious use of an explosive device.

In mid-February, Calvert set off a homemade bomb filled with nails and screws outside the Alabama Attorney General’s Office in Montgomery.

While no injuries or damage to nearby buildings were reported, the potential for catastrophic harm was significant.

What is particularly disturbing about this case is Calvert’s apparent attempt to sow confusion and potentially incite further violence.

Prior to the explosion, he placed stickers with political ideologies, including “Support your local Antifa” on various downtown buildings.

While he claimed no affiliation with Antifa, this action raises questions about his true motives and the potential for copycat attacks by other extremist groups.

“Kyle Calvert attacked the Alabama Attorney General’s Office with a shrapnel-filled explosive and then fled the scene, but this sentence ensures he will not escape accountability for his crime,” Attorney General Merrick B. Garland said.

“Acts of violence like this one against our public institutions endanger public servants and entire communities, and they must not be tolerated,” he continued.

He added, “I am grateful to the FBI, ATF, and our state and local law enforcement partners for ensuring accountability for this attack, and for the work they do every day to protect our communities.”

The investigation into this heinous act involved a coordinated effort by the FBI, ATF, and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Their swift action led to Calvert’s arrest on April 10, just two weeks after the incident.

Moreover, the explosive device used in this attack was identified as an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) crafted from commercially available fireworks a coffee can, and enhanced with nails and ignitable liquids.

“This IED used commercially available pyrotechnic fireworks as the main explosive charge, a coffee can as a concealment container, and was enhanced with added fragmentation and ignitable liquids,” an FBI agent wrote.

“The addition of metal screws, nails, and other hardware to this IED demonstrates weaponization characteristics due to the enhanced fragmentation effect that those materials would create,” they added.
