(Patriot.Buzz) – More details about wannabe assassin Ryan Routh are coming to light as he has been revealed to have a long history of legal troubles.
Routh has been accused of attempting to assassinate Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump at his Florida golf club.
Online records show that his long criminal record includes a 2002 incident where he was convicted of possessing a “weapon of mass destruction.”
Over 20 years before the attempt on Trump’s life, Routh was involved in a tense three-hour standoff with police at a Greensboro business after a traffic stop went south.
Back then, 36-year-old Routh reportedly touched his firearm during the stop, then drove to his business, United Roofing, and barricaded himself inside.
Authorities finally arrested him around 1 a.m., charging him with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon of mass destruction due to a fully automatic machine gun he allegedly had.
Online records from the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction confirm that he was convicted of the weapon of mass destruction charge in 2002.
Between 2002 and 2010, Routh racked up more convictions, including felony possession of stolen goods.
He was also convicted on misdemeanor charges like carrying a concealed gun, hit and run and resisting law enforcement.
At this point, Routh has not been charged yet for his recent assassination attempt on Trump’s life at the golf club.
During the incident, Secret Service agents who were positioned a few holes ahead of Trump spotted the muzzle of an AK-47 peeking through the bushes.
One agent fired at Routh, who then fled the scene but was eventually caught, according to authorities.
Court records noted by CNN indicate that Routh also had earlier legal issues, including a federal tax lien of about $32,000 in 2008.
Reports also highlighted that state and federal officials have repeatedly mentioned his delays in paying taxes.
