(Patriot.Buzz) – After murdering four people and injuring nine others, 14-year-old Colt Gray confessed to the horrific crime by telling investigators “I did it” during his arrest.
This statement came following a deadly shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia that left two students and two teachers dead.
The young suspect faces murder charges for the tragedy that unfolded at his school in Winder, a town near Atlanta.
He used an AR-15-style rifle to carry out the crime. Authorities arrested him shortly after the shooting.
In addition to his confession and arrest, his 54-year-old father Colin Gray was also charged in relation to the shooting, including accusations that he gifted his son the weapon used in the killings as a Christmas present last year.
Authorities are still trying to understand the teen’s motives and to identify any missed warning signs.
This scrutiny includes reassessing a visit authorities paid to the Gray home in May last year.
The visit was carried out after the FBI was tipped about online threats Colt made of a school shooting. At the time, the teen denied such threats.
His father also assured officers that his hunting guns were secure and Colt could not access them.
The officers advised locking up the firearms and recommended that Colt stay out of school until the issue was resolved.
However, the investigation stalled at the time because there was not enough evidence about the origin of the social media threats.
Despite this warning, law enforcement sources indicated that the father went on to buy an AR-style rifle for Colt that Christmas.
In a search of Gray’s home after the massacre, investigators discovered documents that suggested an intense interest in past school shootings, including the 2018 Parkland shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
Details of what specifically Gray had studied or written about these incidents were not revealed immediately.
Gray now faces charges for the deaths of 14-year-old students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, and two teachers, 39-year-old Richard Aspinwall and 53-year-old Christina Irimie.
