(Patriot.buzz) – In a new leftist judicial crusade against a Trump ally, Steve Bannon, a prominent former Trump advisor, is preparing for a high-profile trial in New York this February.

Accused of money laundering and conspiracy related to the “We Build the Wall” fundraising effort, Bannon claims these charges stem from political persecution.

As the trial date approaches, tensions are high, and the American conservative movement closely watches this legal battle.

Steve Bannon is set for trial on February 25 in New York, facing serious charges of money laundering, conspiracy, and a scheme to defraud through the “We Build the Wall” project.

The initiative falsely promised to use donated private funds for building sections of the U.S.-Mexico border wall.

Bannon’s defense claims these charges are politically motivated, a common assertion in today’s divisive political arena.

Bannon’s trial was originally scheduled for December 9 but was postponed to February to allow examination of more financial evidence.

This delay gives both sides more time to prepare for an intense legal battle, Reuters writes in a report.

Bannon was previously indicted on similar federal charges but received a presidential pardon from Trump in 2021.

However, presidential pardons do not apply to state charges, leaving Bannon vulnerable to legal action in New York.

In August 2020, Bannon completed a four-month federal prison sentence for defying a congressional subpoena related to the January 6 Capitol events investigation.

He regarded his prison experience as empowering, unbroken by the ordeal. This sentiment fuels his defense as he faces yet another legal hurdle.

Despite being a key figure, Bannon is not the only individual implicated in the alleged fraudulent activity.

Three other members of the “We Build the Wall” organization, including founder Brian Kolfage, have been convicted. This broadens the context of the case Bannon is involved in.

Prosecutors allege Bannon used some of the funds for personal enrichment, and evidence suggests over $600,000 from the charity was misused to cover credit card debt of a nonprofit linked to him.

These serious allegations pose a significant threat to Bannon’s defense.

The stakes are high as Bannon faces up to 15 years if convicted. This trial not only affects Bannon personally but also has broader implications for the conservative movement.

Political leaders and grassroots supporters alike await the trial’s outcome, as it could set precedents for how politically-charged legal cases are handled in the future.
