(Patriot.Buzz) – Joe Biden’s decision to pardon a corrupt judge involved in the “cash-for-kids” scandal has sparked fury in his hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Residents and officials are now demanding the removal of Biden’s name from the expressway, exposing a deep rift between the Democrat and the community he claims to represent.
The outrage stems from Biden’s recent clemency for former Judge Michael Conahan, who was convicted for his role in the notorious “kids-for-cash” scandal.
Conahan received payments for unjustly sending juveniles to for-profit detention centers, a scheme that destroyed countless young lives and families in northeastern Pennsylvania.
Lackawanna County Commissioner Chris Chermak is leading the charge to reverse the 2021 renaming of Spruce Street to Biden Street.
Chermak did not mince words when describing Biden as “one of the worst presidents we’ve ever had.”
The commissioner argues that removing Biden’s name would “be a step toward restoring confidence in the city’s leadership and reaffirming our commitment to decisions that reflect the values and integrity of our community.”
The movement to strip Biden’s name from Scranton’s landmarks is gaining significant traction.
An online petition calling for the street names to revert back has already gathered over 20,000 signatures, demonstrating the depth of public outrage over Biden’s decision.
State Representative-elect Brenda Pugh has come up as a vocal critic of Biden’s pardon.
She emphasized the lasting impact on children who were jailed for minor offenses and continue to struggle with mental health issues.
Pugh stated, “Conahan’s conduct is forever a blight on Pennsylvania and is a slap in the face to the victims and their families who deserve justice to be served for his atrocious crimes.”
The scandal’s far-reaching consequences became clear when the Pennsylvania Supreme Court was forced to overturn 4,000 juvenile convictions due to corruption.
This massive miscarriage of justice has left deep scars in the community, making Biden’s pardon all the more shocking to Scranton residents.
“He’s a failed president who couldn’t help himself to pardon his corrupt criminal son from so many illegal schemes. His name is to be off the highway,” said State Sen. Doug Mastriano.
Even prominent Democrats are distancing themselves from Biden’s decision.
Governor Josh Shapiro criticized the pardon, stating it was a mistake that caused pain in northeastern Pennsylvania.
Scranton Mayor Paige Gebhardt Cognetti expressed her disappointment by calling the pardon a “grave error.”
