(Patriot.Buzz) – Further cementing his frontrunner status in the primary field, Republican Governor Greg Abbott of Texas publicly endorsed former President Donald Trump for the Republican primary nomination during a weekend event dedicated to service members on the Texas border.
At this event, Abbott also sharply critiqued Joe Biden’s dismal handling of national security and border issues.
“Joe Biden is causing a potential terror threat in the United States of America,” Abbott declared. He emphasized the paramount duty of a president to ensure national security, a task at which he believes Biden has failed.
Abbott vehemently argued for a change in leadership, stating, “We need a president who’s going to secure the border. We need a president who’s going to restore law and order in the United States of America. Not letting these criminals run ransack over the stores that you see images of almost nightly. We need a president who’s going to restore world peace as opposed to this outbreak of warfare under Joe Biden. We need Donald J. Trump back as our president of the United States of America.”
In his endorsement, Abbott commended Trump’s policies on border control, such as implementing Title 42, advocating for the construction of a border wall, and opposing the catch-and-release practice for undocumented immigrants. Following Abbott’s endorsement, Trump thanked the governor and pledged to make his job easier if he returned to the presidency.
The event in Edinburg, Texas, saw both Abbott and Trump distributing meals to Texas National Guard soldiers and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, showcasing their unified stance on border issues. Abbott has consistently supported Trump, particularly praising his approach to border security and contrasting it with the current administration’s policies.
Trump, known for his firm stance on immigration and border security, has maintained this focus during his campaign and presidency. Abbott’s administration has similarly concentrated on these issues, intensifying border and immigration policies in Texas during Biden’s tenure. This includes transporting migrants to Democrat-led cities, installing razor-wire fences, and initiating “Operation Lone Star” to deter migration.
The Democratic National Committee, through spokesperson Sarafina Chitika, responded critically to Abbott’s endorsement. Chitika denounced both Trump and Abbott, unsurprisingly, for their political strategies and positions on issues like abortion, immigration, and gun control, suggesting that Abbott’s endorsement would not sway voters who have previously rejected Trump’s “MAGA agenda.”
