(Patriot.Buzz) – In an unashamed attempt to ignore the alarming migration crisis and portray himself as an innocent man, Joe Biden blamed Congress for failing to pass border initiatives while also touching on climate change.
Biden visited the U.S.-Mexico border for the second time during his administration and he chose Brownsville, Texas, which registers few illegal immigrant encounters.
Although he has been harshly criticized for his inefficient handling of the border crisis, he chose to ignore the issue and opened his remarks to discuss climate change in relation to the wildfires scorching parts of Texas and Oklahoma.
He began his speech by saying, “I’ve flown over a lot of these wildfires since I’ve been president, as a matter of fact, I’ve helicoptered in the west, in the southwest, in the northwest.”
Additionally, Biden mocked former President Donald Trump and compared him to a caveman, saying, “The idea that there’s no such thing as climate change, I love that man. I love some of my neanderthal friends who still think there is no climate change.”
Furthermore, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre tackled criticism about Biden’s choice of location for a southern border visit during a press briefing. A reporter questioned Jean-Pierre about the apparent contradiction and referred to past criticisms from the administration to Republicans for similar border visits.
Jean-Pierre replied, “Oh, it’s very different. What House Republicans have done is nothing — absolutely nothing. If anything, they consistently get in the way — they consistently get in the way of what the President is trying to do to get more resources.”
Meanwhile Trump criticized the White House in terms of the handling of the border and attributed the surge in migration to the Biden’s policies during his own visit to the border. Regarding the choice of locations, the disparity in apprehension numbers was noted.
For instance, Eagle Pass, which Trump visited first, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) logged about 169,000 apprehensions during the first four months of the 2024 fiscal year, while only 76,000 apprehensions were recorded in Brownsville.
Notably Brownsville lacks razor wire, a point of contention between the Biden administration and Governor Abbott’s team.
In early January, the Supreme Court allowed border patrol to cut razor wire that Texas officials installed, while Biden admitted concerns about border security after recording more than 176,000 migrant encounters in December 2023 and January 2024.
