(Patriot.Buzz) – Following recent escalating tensions around the globe, FBI Director Christopher Wray has issued a warning about the high chances of a major terrorist attack within the United States.
In an interview with NBC News, Wray highlighted “the potential for some kind of coordinated attack here in the homeland” like the recent tragedy at a concert hall in Moscow.
The event marked the deadliest terrorist incident in Russia in two decades, as ISIS-K144 killed people.
During a recent testimony to a House of Representatives panel, Wray underscored that the current looming threats to public safety and national security are among the worst he has witnessed in his career.
He noted that the FBI had over 4,000 international terrorism investigations underway as of the end of fiscal year 2023.
According to Wray, Hamas’ terror attack on Israel on October 7 worsened these concerns and pushed the terror threat level to record heights.
He further explained the broader range of threats from countries like China, Russia and Iran and emphasized the challenges posed by “both foreign terrorist threats and domestic terrorist threats.”
Appointed by former President Donald Trump in 2017, Wray has called for increased funding for the FBI, which faces a budget shortfall of $500 million needed just to keep current operations going.
The backdrop of these discussions is complex due to ongoing criticism from Trump, who has blasted the FBI and the Justice Department for being “vicious monsters” targeting him and urged Congress to cut the agency’s funding.
At the same time, there has been a major increase in threats toward FBI personnel and facilities, which caused the agency to create a dedicated unit to address these security concerns.
In the aftermath of the Moscow attack, ISIS took responsibility and released disturbing footage of the assault that killed thousands at Crocus City Hall.
After the incident, Russian authorities caught four suspects who were reportedly interrogated harshly, with allegations of beatings and electric shocks.
Russian President Vladimir Putin blamed the attack on “radical Islamists” who are “followers of an ideology that the Islamic world itself has been fighting against for centuries.”
